QLED TV FAQs

What is a QLED TV?

QLED TVs make use of quantum dot technology to create images with more realistic colour and greater detail. QLED TVs include a layer of quantum dots that combine together in different ways to create unique wavelengths of light. Quantum dots can recreate billions of highly specific colours, so QLED TVs are very popular for those looking to indulge in the best HDR films.

QLED TVs make use of a traditional backlight array, which differentiates them from the similarly named OLED TVs.

Are QLED TVs better than OLED TVs?

When it comes to colour accuracy, QLED TVs are pretty much unrivalled. QLED TVs can recreate billions of colours exactly as they should look in real life, which makes them perfect for enjoying films, TV shows, and video games with greater levels of fidelity.

QLED TVs are also incredibly bright, which helps to make all of those quantum dot colours seem all the more vibrant and eye-catching.

However, QLED TV’s are not definitively better than OLED TVs, as they have their own unique benefits!

Are QLED TVs better than LED TVs?

QLED TVs actually operate very similarly to standard LED TVs, but the inclusion of quantum dot technology sets them apart. A standard LED TV will use the light from its LED backlights to illuminate the pixel layer of the screen, resulting in a full image. QLED TVs also include an LED backlight and a pixel layer, but also include a quantum dot layer.

The quantum dot layer is responsible for recreating highly specific colours, so QLED TVs have the distinct advantage of being more colourful than standard LED TVs!

Do QLED TVs suffer from burn in?

Unlike OLED TVs, QLED TVs actually do not suffer from burn-in! Burn-in happens within OLED TVs as a result of individual OLED pixels degrading and thus losing their ability to emit ordinary amounts of light.

Because QLED pixels do not provide their own light, and instead rely on a backlight, QLED TVs themselves aren’t vulnerable to burn-in. However, it’s still recommended to take good care of a QLED TV by, for instance, lowering the screen brightness, which in turn reduces the strain placed on the backlight.
