What does OLED stand for?

OLED stands for Organic Light-Emitting Diode, a type of display technology that uses a thin carbon-based film built into the screen. When electricity hits this organic film and creates a charge, it lights up. This reaction means that 4K OLED TVs are classified as self-emitting, and therefore they don’t require a backlight. This allows OLED TVs to be particularly thin and their display technology means black really means black, with no light spill or afterglow.

Is OLED better than QLED?

Whilst both QLED and OLED are both at the forefront of the very latest in TV technology, there is some debate over which offers the best viewing experience. QLED uses quantum dots to create a broad spectrum of colour, boosted by illuminated LED backlights. Meanwhile, OLED pixels work independently from one another and use no backlight, allowing them to display the deepest of blacks. Traditionally, LG’s OLED 4K TV models were widely accepted as the best option, however in recent years QLED varieties have levelled the playing field.

How long do 4K OLED TVs last?

Ultimately, the lifespan of a television depends on a few factors, such as how often you use it and the type of model. LG have proudly stated that their OLED TVs last for 100,000 hours, which is an impressive 10 hours a day for 10 years. Whilst it is definitely not unrealistic for this to be true, it’s possible that after roughly five or more years of heavy usage, the brightness capability of your OLED TV may start to reduce. In other words, these TVs can withstand thousands of hours of shows and movies before any reduction in viewing experience.

Is NanoCell better than OLED?

Whilst both of these technologies offer an amazing viewing experience, they achieve this in different ways.
