LED TV FAQs

What is an LED TV?

An LED TV is any TV that makes use of an LED backlight array to make an image visible. Though QLED TVs are often classified separately from them, they technically count as a variation of an LED TV.

OLED TVs are very different from LED TVs, on the other hand, specifically because they don’t make use of an LED backlight. OLED TVs instead make use of OLED pixels, which are designed to produce their own light while also rendering images. This allows OLED TVs to deliver images with striking contrast.

Are LED TVs 4K?

Many LED TVs are available with a 4K resolution! While many of the world’s most popular 4K TV models make use of OLED and QLED display technologies, many still make use of more traditional LED display technology.

4K LED TVs are a more affordable alternative to the popular OLED and QLED models, and make a perfect entry point for anyone looking for their first ever UHD TV!

Are LED TVs the same as Mini LED TVs?

Mini LED TVs are technically a type of LED TV. However, while every mini LED TV technically counts as an LED TV, not every LED TV counts as a mini LED TV.

Mini LED TVs differentiate themselves thanks to their use of miniature LEDs that are a fraction of the size of regular LEDs. Because they’re so small, it’s possible to pack thousands more of them into the backlight array. These miniature LEDs can then adjust the amount of light they emit, independently. This allows for images with stronger contrast.

Are LED TVs better than LCD TVs?

LCD TVs have largely been usurped by LED TVS and other popular display types. Part of the reason for this is that LCD TVs are incredibly inefficient. LCD TVs make use of a liquid crystal display that creates images. Liquid crystal displays are incredibly energy hungry, so they come with a much heavier overall cost.

LED TVs are also much slimmer, and are capable of rendering images with much greater clarity. This makes them a more popular option for creating modern smart TV displays.

Another benefit of LED TVs is their much longer lifespans. If you want a TV that will last throughout years of use, then an LED model is the one for you.
