What Brands Of Dishwashers Are The Most Energy Efficient?

Easily the best dishwasher brands for energy efficiency are Bosch and Smeg. Both manufacturers have a massive number of “A”-rated dishwashers. These dishwashers are packed with quality-of-life features that help to make them much more efficient.

With energy bills constantly fluctuating, it’s important to stay on top of how much electricity you’re consuming at any given time. Towards this end, it’s worth making sure your home appliances are working at their very best. That they’re efficient, and that they’re not causing your bills to skyrocket.

But this is often much easier said than done. Especially when you consider that certain appliances, like the handy dishwasher, are often infamous for their high energy consumption. Do energy-efficient dishwashers even exist? Which brands offer the most efficient options?

These are questions we’ve long pondered ourselves, so we set out to find some answers. We recruited our Reliant tech experts, to see what they had to say. And to see if they could help us to find out which brands offer the most efficient dishwasher models. Want to see what we found out? You’ll have to read on down below!

Do Dishwashers Use A Lot Of Electricity?

For the longest time, dishwashers have had something of a reputation for high energy consumption. As a result, many households opt to go without a dishwasher entirely. Believing the appliance to be an unnecessary luxury.

However, this reputation is nowadays slightly outdated. While it is true that some dishwasher models consume a lot of electricity, many modern models are actually designed to be highly efficient. On average, you should expect an ordinary modern dishwasher to use about 1.2kWh to 1.5kWh for every cycle you run. Over the course of a year, this could result in up to £50 in your yearly energy bills.

Dishwashers have long had a reputation for consuming large amounts of electricity. However, recent innovations in efficiency are set to make that reputation very much a thing of the past!

If you want true efficiency, it’s worth looking for a model that consumes under 1.2kWh with every wash. Luckily, there are plenty of modern models that do just that!

Why Does Energy Efficiency Matter?

Ultimately, energy efficiency has two key benefits that are worthy of note. The first and most obvious is that it’s kinder on your wallet. When your appliances use less electricity, it results in much lower energy bills. This can help you to save for some of the more important things in life.

Energy efficiency also matters because it’s beneficial for the planet. Don’t forget that producing electricity is very resource-heavy. Traditional electricity production requires the use of a lot of fossil fuels. As such, putting electricity to waste has a direct negative impact on the planet.

Which Dishwasher Brands Are The Most Efficient?

In order to find out which dishwasher brands offer the most efficiency, we had our tech experts take a look at some of the top manufacturers. Comparing and contrasting models to find out which brands offer the greatest number of efficient models worth considering.

Bosch

Bosch is one of the leading names in the home appliances space. And when you consider the number of excellent dishwasher options they have available, it’s not hard to see why.

To start off, it’s worth mentioning that Bosch offers a number of excellent A-rated dishwashers. What do we mean by “A-rated”? A-rated appliances are considered to be some of the most efficient options on the market. Whenever you look at an electric appliance in-store, or online, you’ll come across its energy rating. This is denoted by a colour-coded sliding scale. The closer an appliance is to “A”, the more efficient it is. G-rated appliances are considered to be the least efficient.

Bosch dishwashers come with eco-mode programs that are designed to lower the amount of electricity and water being used. While it does take longer to finish the job, eco-mode helps you to cut down on the amount of energy and water being wasted.

Auto programs are also a big help. Intelligent sensors built into the dishwashers can quickly determine how many dishes you’ve inserted, and just how dirty they are! This in turn ensures the dishwasher never uses too much or too little energy!

Bosch dishwashers are not only packed with modern features, such as smartphone connectivity. They’re also some of the most efficient models on the market. There’s a large selection of A-rated models and plenty of energy-efficient features to choose from!

Hoover

Hoover is another widely-recognized name in the world of home appliances. While the company has the same level of prestige as Bosch, they don’t quite compare when it comes to the number of efficient models. Some of the most efficient Hoover dishwashers tend to achieve “B” and “C” ratings at the highest. These are still great energy ratings, however, and can go a long way towards lowering your bills.

Many of Hoover’s latest models employ a specialised inverter motor, which makes efficient use of every drop of water. In turn, this means that the dishwasher doesn’t need much water or electricity at all.

Hoover does not currently offer any A-rated dishwashers, which does put them slightly behind Bosch. However, Hoover boasts some incredibly generous prices and high-quality models. They’re a worthy choice for those new to dishwashers!

There are also a number of modern eco cycles that allow the unit to conserve resources. These eco cycles lower the temperature of the water, to cut down on electricity, while still providing a full and efficient clean.

Indesit

Indesit dishwashers are available in a massive array of models and sizes. As such, there are also a number of varying energy ratings. Unfortunately, on average, Indesit dishwashers tend to be rated at around “E” and “F”.

A few Indesit models have eco features you might expect from competing manufacturers. Such as eco-wash cycles. However, Indesit is not the first name that we would recommend to anyone looking for a truly efficient dishwasher.

LG

LG is actually a great name to rely on for energy-efficient dishwashers. While they may not offer quite the same number of A-rated dishwashers as Bosch, the dishwashers that are on offer have a number of great energy-efficient features.

One key feature to look out for in LG dishwashers is the Inverter Direct Drive included in some models. It’s easy to underestimate the impact of a good motor in a dishwasher, and the Inverter Direct Drive is proof of this. Essentially, the drive is designed to allow the washing machine to more closely control the flow of water. In turn, the drive allows the dishwasher to put every drop of water to good use. This cuts down on water and energy waste

The Inverter Direct Drive also helps to cut down on the amount of noise generated by the appliance. So you won’t have to put up with incessant whirring while a cycle is in progress.

LG dishwashers don’t have the strongest energy ratings. However, what they lack in A-ratings, they more than make up for with plenty of energy-efficient features that make them stand out in such a competitive market.

Other useful features can also be found in a few models, such as Auto Open Doors. At the end of a cycle, these doors automatically open just slightly, to allow the dishes to dry by simply using room-temperature air. This allows you to completely skip the drying cycle, which in turn means the dishwasher doesn’t have to waste energy in generating heat.

Neff

Neff dishwashers are available in a large array of models, and there are even a number of integrated models. This makes them a great option for those who want to create a beautiful kitchen with a uniform aesthetic. And to make the deal even sweeter, Neff also offers a number of models with strong energy ratings.

On average, most models tend to range from “E” to “C”, with very few models ever dipping below that benchmark. This means you can easily end up picking an efficient model from them. A few models even have energy ratings as high as “A” and “B”! It’s worth taking a look through their wide selection to choose a model that suits you.

Neff dishwashers also come with the energy efficiency features you might expect from the best models. One great feature we love is the dishwasher’s ability to retain heat from the washing cycle to then re-use it later on in the drying cycle. This allows the appliance to conserve energy massively!

Neff dishwashers are also incredibly smart. By connecting one directly to your smartphone, you can choose a cycle remotely. This also lets you get some extra insight into how efficient each cycle is. So you can choose one that suits your needs best.

Dishwasher Energy Saving

Samsung

Some of the most efficient Samsung dishwashers have energy ratings up to around “B”. On average, most models tend to range between “E” to “C”. As such Samsung is a good name to look out for when looking for a simple and efficient dishwasher.

Samsung is a company known for producing highly advanced and innovative devices. The company’s commitment to new technologies extends all the way through to its dishwashers. One of our favourite features included in some Samsung dishwashers is the “Half Load” function. Not going to be able to fill up your dishwasher in time before starting the cycle? Use half load to use half of the electricity and water. This allows you to quickly wash specific dishes without spending too much!

Samsung dishwashers are also packed full of weight and dirt sensors. This allows them to know how many dishes are loaded, and how much water needs to be used. Samsung dishwashers are always actively seeking to use less electricity and water at all times!

Smeg

We truly saved the best for last. Smeg is one of the leading names to look out for if you want maximum efficiency. A massive number of Smeg models are available with “A” and “B” ratings. There are not just one or two highly efficient models in the catalogue. The company specialises in creating the most efficient models around.

Smeg has a wide selection of “A” and “B” rated dishwashers. This makes them a great name to rely on when you’re looking for an energy-efficient dishwasher of your own.

Smeg dishwashers also include numerous key efficiency features you would expect from other models. Including various eco cycles, and auto door open functions. These all help to enhance the efficiency of the appliance, without sacrificing the quality of the clean.

Smeg dishwashers are some of the most premium dishwashers on the market, and they have some of the very best performance when compared to the competition. Though they may have a slightly higher upfront cost, the money you’ll save on bills speaks for itself!

Which Is Most Efficient?

Easily the most efficient dishwasher brand on the market is Smeg. Smeg offers a number of “A” and “B” rated dishwashers, so there’s plenty to choose from. And just because they’re highly efficient, it doesn’t mean that Smeg dishwashers sacrifice quality. Smeg dishwashers can easily power through even the toughest dishwasher tasks while using less water and electricity in the process.

Other brands definitely make a great name for themselves, such as Bosch, and Samsung. With numerous high average energy ratings, and plenty of energy efficiency features.

But, if you want a truly efficient experience, we’d simply have to recommend opting for Smeg!
