As long as we’ve had TVs in the home, we’ve dreamed of maxing out and having the biggest screens around. After all, with a huge TV screen, why would you ever need to go to the cinema again?
Recent years have seen significant advances in television display technologies. This has also led to much larger TV screens than have ever been available before.
But some of the largest screens now on the market seem to be limited to around 98 inches at most. Will there ever come a time when 100-inch TVs take over the market? We’ve set our Reliant tech experts to find out!
Are 100-Inch TVs Coming?
Technically speaking, 100-inch TVs already exist. However, not many people know about them, because they’re not very widespread. You’d have a tough time finding 100-inch TVs while searching through the ordinary TV market.
It’s likely that 100-inch TVs won’t quite hit the mainstream for many years to come. The biggest reason for this is simply their immense cost. Some of the largest TVs available on the market are 98-inches. These are also some of the more expensive ones. 98-inch TVs are still slightly less popular than smaller TV models. This is because smaller TVs have much smaller price tags. For instance, a 65-inch TV is much more affordable than a 98-inch TV.
It would be foolish for a manufacturer to release a 100-inch TV within the current mass market. The cost of 98-inch TVs still drives many people away, so the potential cost of a 100-inch TV would be even more disconcerting!
100-inch TVs already exist. But they’re not easily accessible on the general TV market. They’re incredibly large, and would likely be incredibly expensive, even compared to the already costly 98-inch variety!
100-inch TVs are also, obviously, much larger than other TVs. Many people simply wouldn’t have space for a TV of this size. Those with smaller spaces would benefit much more from smaller TVs. And they also cost much less!
Are Bigger TVs Always Better?
One of the main reasons why people wonder if 100-inch TVs exist is because they assume that larger TVs are always better. While there is some logic to the notion, it can’t be said that bigger screens are always better.
Larger TV screens can certainly offer a greater cinematic scope in every image. But in order to accommodate their greater screen size, you need to have enough space for them!
To actually make the most of any TV screen, you need to be able to see the entire thing without having to move your head around! You’ll know a TV is too big if you’re forced to sit too close! If you don’t have enough space between yourself and the screen, the TV is too big!
